Pregnancy update: Anaesthetic Clinic review

another antenatal appointment today - anaesthetic clinic review

i thought it was going to be be anaesthetic clearance since i never got any anaesthesia before, but turns out they wanted to check if i was eligible for an epidural if it was necessary since i have scoliosis. so it was a quick consult with the doctor and it was determined that since my curve is bit higher up, it wouldn't affect the epidural administration~

after the antenatal appointment we went on a road trip down south of adelaide to marino rocks and normanville beach but it was raining so couldn't really see much...

Pregnancy update: Week 26

 

Weight: 57.4kg (+1kg since last week [just lol about the weight gain], +10.4kg overall)

Symptoms: acne, heartburn, pelvic girdle pain

seems like the nausea is finally leaving me alone... nil nausea during week 26, but new problems of heartburn as Atty is getting bigger and has started to squish against my stomach, pushing stomach contents up. it was especially bad on 23/6 and 24/6... couldn't sleep much due to the heartburn, even after taking several antacids and when trying to sleep propped up. only around dawn of 24/6 that Atty decided to shift positions and dropped down so she was not pressing on my stomach anymore. only managed to get some sleep that morning zzz..

on 26/6 went for my OGTT and some other blood tests at SA Pathology early in the morning at 8. had to fast at least 10 hours for the OGTT. i was rather nervous about the OGTT as i have some sort of needle phobia ever since being traumatized by all the blood taking and IV drips when i had dengue fever few years ago. but... in the end the 75g glucose solution gave me more problems. the glucose solution was so sweet! and it was carbonated so i kept burping after drinking it. i had to finish it within 5 minutes but it was so hard... urghh got so nauseous drinking it, especially since i always have something savoury in the mornings and getting all that sugar in first thing in the morning was terrible.

i even took my ipad along so i could read an ebook to pass time when waiting the 2 hours... but turns out i was so nauseous that i had to focus on not throwing up that the time went by so quickly. they even gave me a puke bag since i looked so terrible.

before i knew it the alarm sounded for my blood taking 1 hour post glucose solution. after another hour the nausea settled in a little.... but i still felt super gross and only wanted to eat something salty.

feeling quite abused today...

luckily King had packed an egg for me... and there was a packet of salt in the car muahahaa. poured the salt onto the egg and it was such a delicacy! nausea immediately felt better after the salt intake. we initially planned on having burgers for lunch but changed plans to get korean fried chicken. turns out the restaurant is actually operated by Chinese lol... anyway the korean fried chicken was quite yummy... remains crispy for a long time. we were the first customers there when they opened so the chicken was cooked with fresh oil hehee...

after lunch we just went shopping at Westfield Tea Tree Plaza... King said i was super energetic that day hahahaa... maybe it's all that surge of sugar lol...

Pregnancy update: Week 25

 

Weight 56.4kg (+1.1kg since last week, overall +9.4kg). Omg that crazy weight gain is back again 😱

Symptoms: the usual acne, mild late night nausea, pelvic girdle pain. 

New symptoms: more frequent urination... 17/6 Atty kicked my bladder and i almost peeded myself lol. 18/6 she kicked my bladder few more times. Having fun huh, Atty?

19/6 had to sleep propped up due to heartburn upon lying down. Also dreamt that Atty kept kicking and moving so i looked at my tummy to see the movements and my tunmy was translucent... i saw her little hands clasped together on the top on my tummy.. then her head a little downwards...she was curled up upside down. Got a light to see her better and managed to see her features. She had single eyelids...almond shaped eyes. A little like king but a bit bigger. Nose was like king's...not totally but mostly. Her upper lip was like mine...thicker. Lower lip was like kings..thin. She looked so cute!! Looked quite rounded. She even opened her eyes a little to look at me then smiled and giggled. But maybe the light was too bright so she tried to avoid the light.... woke up thereafter as Atty was kicking and moving so much. 

The entire day Atty was super active. Moves and kicks throughout the day! She squished up to my left side at night, not sure if she was stretching but my tummy was lopsided and super hard on the left side...

Sushi making

attempted to make sushi today! it ended up being a 3 hour project omg...

daddy and mummy helped in the food prep: cooking of rice, heating up the eel, cutting the cucumber and mango...

making the sushi rice and tuna mayo was quick, but rolling each sushi roll took the most time! maybe i was too ambitious for a start as i wanted to try to make the inside-out rolls and also those with some ingredients topped on. if i just stuck to the traditional rolls with the nori on the outside maybe it would be faster haha.

lost count of how many rolls i made as they got eaten away as i made them hahaha... but it was quite a lot of rolls...

Strawberry watermelon cake

highlight of today is trying strawberry watermelon cake! but first let us fill our tummies with a proper meal... we had dim sum for lunch at Little Canton:

har gao, prawn dumplings with spinach, speciality fried rice, tripe and radish cake. we also ordered steamed glutinous rice with chicken (we actually came here for this dish as King was craving it) but it's not in the picture as it was served later.

after lunch we actually stopped by Playford Hotel Lounge Bar to try their decaf coffee which was recommended by one of King's customers.

 

i'm trying to cut down on my caffeine intake so got to go for decaf but i find that decaf options seem to be hard to find here. or maybe the cafes just don't list decaf on the menu as an option? even in the supermarkets there are not many decaf coffee options... whereas in the US there were a ton of options when it came to decaf. anyway, so i tried the decaf caramel latte there, which was not bad... no sour aftertaste... but it was so sweet! maybe too much caramel syrup added. i should have tried the plain latte on its own.

next we headed for the highlight of the day, strawberry watermelon cake. i first tried it in 2014 at Black Star Pastry in Sydney. last year in Singapore i also tried a version of the cake by Cream and Custard cafe but it wasn't that impressive. recently i discovered that Han's Patisserie right here in Adelaide also makes strawberry watermelon cake so i have been wanting to try it.

and i think i may have found the substitute to Black Star Pastry's strawberry watermelon cake! Han's Patisserie's version actually tastes very similar, and perhaps even better! i found Black Star Pastry's version to be a little too sweet for my liking... but Han's Patisserie's version is milder and suits me better. yummmm.

we also tried the lychee raspberry gateau. pretty layers. this was good too! very promising... looks like i got to try their other cakes too in future~

now should i be worrying about that upcoming 28 week OGTT though... hmmm...

after all that food we just went to do some grocery shopping and run some errands. few weeks back i ordered a shower chair from Mobility Therapy Centre to prevent any falls as at times i get giddy in the shower... and now my tummy is getting bigger i'm not very stable so it's a little risky when i bend down to wash my legs and feet. but the shower chair was on backorder and the customer service said it will take 3-4weeks to arrive. 3-4weeks passed and still no delivery so i called them again and they said it is still on backorder and may take another 3-4 weeks. i didn't want to wait that long so decided to stop by their warehouse and see if there are any other models in stock and to do a swap. the staff there were really friendly and helpful... so i got another model of the shower chair and sorted out my initial order in like 5 minutes. yay now i can take risk-free showers!

at the end of the day we stopped by Semaphore Beach for the sunset. too bad it was cloudy so the sunset wasn't spectacular, but a nice stroll out on the jetty for fresh air~

Pregnancy update: Week 24

Weight 55.3kg (+0.3kg since last week, +8.2kg so far). Weight gain seems to be stabilizing, yay.

Symptoms: acne, pelvic pain, slight nausea in the late night some days

Quite a smooth week :)

Atty did a continuous 9x kick one morning which woke up me haha. I feel that her range of movements are expanding.

One afternoon King laid on my tummy/lap as he had a strand of hair stuck in his ear that was bothering him and needed to be removed. Atty seemed to be a bit squished and suddenly started to kick and punch multiple times hahahaa... she rarely has these bursts of movements in the afternoon so I thought it was quite amusing lol.

Pregnancy update: Week 23

Weight 55kg (+0.2kg in the past week, +8kg overall). Ok, seems like the weight gain is plateauing, yay.

Similar symptoms: acne, slight nausea and pelvic pain. nausea really seems to be easing off, i don't even notice it some days.

On Saturday i felt quite hungry around midnight and had to get supper. but other days appetite is still fair.

Atty is as active as ever... nowadays even kicking quite a bit in the afternoons and morning. Her range of movements seem to be expanding, or maybe she is just growing bigger so i can feel more of her movements. At times she does triple kicks lol.

no hot water!

woke up on Sunday morning to find that there was no hot water!
the hot water was still working fine the night before, no idea what happened overnight.

called the agent and they said will try to contact the plumber but the plumber may not come by on the day itself as it was Sunday afterall. after few hours the plumber called me and said he could only come by Monday morning.

sigh... better pray nothing happens in your household over the weekend otherwise wouldn't be able be able to get to fixed until the weekdays. i remember there was once i had food poisoning and kept throwing up for hours until i was so dehydrated... i'm pretty sure it was a weekend night as all the chemists were closed and King had to go around looking for rehydration salts for me. think he finally found it somewhere in the city.

so... too bad too sad that our hot water decided to go on strike on a Sunday. and it was like 1 deg C in the nighttime. washing hands with cold water is terrible. had to boil water just to wash up... so inconvenient... and i couldn't shower :(

first world problems much?

this morning the plumber came by and fixed the problem... we have hot water again, yay! 

Movie date: Wonder Woman

today is the first day of winter! it was 3 deg C last night... brrr!

today is also the premiere date of Wonder Woman, excited to go watch it as i have been wanting to watch it ever since seeing its trailer. we were going to catch a show in the morning so i set an alarm at 8:45am... but ended up being awaken earlier around 8:15am because Atty was kicking me so much. maybe she is excited to go see Wonder Woman too.

we went to Hoyts Salisbury as apparently they have recliner seats which would be more comfortable, and movie tickets cost only $10! we chose to catch the 10:45am show which was without the $3.50 surcharge for extreme screen (at 10am) and 3D (at 10:30am). previously i had signed up for Hoyts Rewards so had $1 off too, yay. will never get movie tickets for such a deal in singapore. i just checked and the price for 1 ticket at GV gold class that has recliner seats is $39 or $34.50 with HSBC card... at Cathay Platinum it is $38 for 1 ticket.

turns out the movie was being screened in a cinema that had just recently finished its renovation for recliner seats and it was the first time opening for a screening with its new seating plan. so there were some technical issues with ticketing where the seating plan would not show up and tickets couldn't be issued. the staff also said the technical staff were also trying to figure out how to get the movie showing on screen so there would be a delay. not sure how long the delay was... about 15-30 minutes? anyway it was finally resolved but the seating plan still did not show up so it sort of ended up being free seating.

they didn't allow backpacks to be brought in though, so K had to return to the car to leave his backpack... then when he came back he forgot to bring my hand cream and tissue paper so he made another trip boohoo.

another downside is that the renovation smell is quite strong in there as it was newly renovated, and apparently other parts of the cinema are also undergoing renovation.

anyway, the seats are really comfortable! leather recliner seats that are fully automated with leg rest and also a stand to place popcorn (and of course the drink holder). previously we watched Logan at another different cinema and the seats were sort of uncomfortable for me.. i ended up with an aching neck and back and butt. it's a totally different experience this time... i totally didn't feel any aches throughout the almost 2.5 hour long movie in the recliner seats! being able to sit so long without feeling any discomfort especially while being pregnant is great! and the seats are so spacious... plenty of leg room too. the angle between rows are great too... will not be blocked by anyone sitting in the front rows even if they are tall. super awesome!



K spilled popcorn over the new recliner seats though hahaaa... tsk tsk.. ok to his credit he managed to clean about 95% of it up. next time if we end up in the same cinema for a movie maybe we will find traces of the popcorn he spilled in the groves of the seats lol.

Atty continued to kick me quite frequently during the movie. don't know if the loud sounds disturbed her or maybe she was imitating Wonder Woman's moves lol.

after the movie we went for lunch at Sushi Planet. it's been a long time since i had sushi! my morning sickness is finally easing up and my appetite is improving so able to tolerate more foods now, yay! but was restricted to ordering only the cooked rolls as i couldn't have any raw food... can't order my favorite sashimi... boohooo... #whinypregnantlady



the restaurant's ventilation is not good though... oily cooking fumes :(

but they had a really cute delivery car, hehee.


we took a walk around Veale Gardens after lunch...


so basically that's our typical date: movie, food, stroll~
